Two people have died in different cases of arson and stabbing in Jigawa State. The police have arrested two suspects linked to these incidents.

The Jigawa State Police Command announced the arrests for alleged arson, murder, and serious injury in the Gwaram and Dutse Local Government Areas.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, shared details in a statement to journalists in Dutse on Wednesday.

Adam said the first incident happened on September 29, 2026, around 11:30 PM. A 27-year-old man, Abbas Ibrahim, from Nassarawa village in Gwaram LGA, allegedly broke into his elder brother's home by jumping over the fence.

According to the PPRO, the suspect, who claimed he was not mentally stable, poured petrol in his brother's room and set it on fire.

This fire caused serious burns to Basiru Shuaibu, 25, and his wife. They were taken to a traditional healer for treatment. Sadly, Basiru died from his injuries while receiving care.

Adam said police began an investigation and arrested Ibrahim in Sara town, Gwaram LGA. The State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse is looking into the case, and Ibrahim has been taken to court for prosecution.

In another case, the PPRO reported that a 20-year-old man, Lawisi Safiyanu, from Chamo village, stabbed a 25-year-old man, Muhammad Abba, in Dutse LGA on October 1, 2026. This happened after a disagreement over a N500 balance.

Abba had bought a mobile phone from Safiyanu for N1,500, paid N1,000, and still owed N500. "During the fight over the remaining N500, the suspect allegedly stabbed him with a knife," the PPRO explained.

The victim was rushed to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse but unfortunately died while receiving treatment. Adam confirmed that the suspect was arrested and the knife used in the attack was recovered.

He stated that the investigation is complete and Safiyanu has been charged in court. Adam added that "the suspect will face the full weight of the law."

The police command is committed to taking strong action against crime. Adam assured residents that offenders will be brought to justice to prevent others from committing similar acts.

The PPRO also mentioned that the Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, has called on residents to stay calm. He urged people to avoid taking the law into their own hands.

The CP encouraged everyone to report any suspicious actions, threats, or disputes to the police or other security agencies.
