Two Nigerians suspected of carrying drugs were arrested in South Africa last week. They are set to appear in court today.

The suspects, Kelvin Ike and Okeke Sunday, were caught by the South African Police Service (SAPS). Officials seized suspected drugs worth R1.5 million, which is about N125 million.

The SAPS released a statement on Sunday. They said the arrests and drug seizure happened during an operation in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape Province.

Police acted on tips about drug dealing in the area. This led them to arrest the two Nigerians.

The police found the men with suspected drugs. "The operation was conducted after SAPS members got information about suspects allegedly selling drugs in Parliament Street, Central."

The statement continued, "The information was immediately acted upon, leading to the arrest of two men found with suspected drugs."

SAPS also mentioned another man whose identity is unknown. He had a large sum of cash but could not explain where he got it from, leading to an official investigation.

During the operation, a K9 officer noticed a rented white Mercedes-Benz B200 Turbo parked on the street. Police searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag with suspected drugs near the rear tyre.

SAPS tracked down the car's owner, who confirmed he rented it out. During the search, police found a suspect hiding in the boot of the car. They also found a key to a flat in his possession.

This led the police to a nearby residence where they conducted a search.

Meanwhile, the two Nigerians, Ike and Sunday, were taken to Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court. They will appear before the court on Monday.

"Another suspect held on a charge of dealing in drugs is also expected to appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 31/08," the statement added.
