Tyson Fury has raised new doubts about his much-anticipated fight with fellow British heavyweight Anthony Joshua. He said the fight “doesn’t look like it’s going to happen” due to ongoing arguments about where it should take place.
Fans expected the two fighters to meet in November. This would have been one of the biggest fights in British boxing history.
But talks have hit a snag. There is a disagreement on whether the fight should happen in the United Kingdom or the United States.
Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, want to keep the fight in the UK. On the other hand, the Saudi organisers and some other parties prefer Madison Square Garden in New York.
Fury spoke on social media, criticizing Hearn and Joshua’s team for the uncertainty. “Doesn’t look like they’re going to sign the fight and it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen all because Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua want more money,” Fury said.
Hearn explained that moving the fight to the United States could have tax issues for Joshua. This could mean the former world champion would earn less money than if the fight happened in the UK.
Fury reacted angrily to Hearn’s comments. He called Joshua and Hearn “disgusting” and “money-thirsty.” Fury also accused Joshua of not having the courage to face him in the ring.
“I’ll move on and fight somebody else but just know you never had the guts to fight Tyson Fury, ever,” Fury said.
The planned fight has support from Saudi organisers and is expected to be shown on Netflix. New York is still one of the top choices for the venue. But no final decision on the location has been made yet.
Despite Fury’s latest comments, Hearn has said that talks are still ongoing. He insists Joshua wants to fight Fury. The argument over the venue and financial issues has left the long-awaited fight facing more uncertainty.
