Governor Uba Sani believes that developing skills is key to improving Nigeria's economy and ensuring everyone is included. He said this during the ground breaking of the NASENI Skill Development Centre in Rigachikun on Monday. He pointed out that young people in Nigeria have the energy, ambition, and creativity to make good use of their skills.
"The government has a duty to create conditions where these qualities can thrive through proper training, recognized qualifications, and fair access to job opportunities. This belief drives our investment in the Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development," he said.
Uba Sani reminded everyone that in August, they celebrated 4,050 graduates from the Institute's campuses in Rigachikun, Soba, and Samaru Kataf. He shared that these graduates trained in 14 trades such as Electrical Installation, Aluminium Fabrication, Solar Installation, Mechatronics, Computer Hardware Repairs and Maintenance, Catering and Hospitality, and Fashion Design.
He also mentioned that the Institute got accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education. Instructors received training to become Quality Assurance Assessors and Internal Quality Assurance Managers.
He stated, "These measures strengthen the credibility of assessment and certification, giving employers greater confidence in the competence of our graduates."
"Today, we lay the foundation for an institution that will expand opportunity, strengthen productive capacity, and prepare our people for the demands of a changing economy. The NASENI Skill Development Centre represents an investment in the knowledge, competence, and enterprise through which individuals build secure livelihoods and societies achieve lasting prosperity," he added.
Uba Sani is hopeful that the NASENI Skill Development Centre will boost the Kaduna State Government's efforts toward developing human capital. He noted that the Centre's success will depend on how well it works with existing institutions, meets industry needs, and trains students with the skills that employers want.
He emphasized that Kaduna State Government expects programs based on practical skills, credible certification, and clear paths to jobs and businesses. "Access must be a key part of that goal. Women, persons with disabilities, and young people from underserved areas must have real chances to take part. Their inclusion will widen our talent pool and make sure development benefits reach families often left out," he said.
Uba Sani confirmed that Kaduna State has provided the necessary land and is fully committed to supporting this project. He praised the contractors for bringing in equipment and showing readiness to start work.
He urged NASENI, the project team, and contractors to stick to agreed standards and timelines. "Timely delivery and good construction must be matched by careful preparation for effective operation," he added.
According to him, "Our shared responsibility is to build an institution that earns public confidence through the quality of its training and the achievements of its graduates. Working together, we can make this Centre a dependable bridge between the aspirations of our people and the opportunities of a productive economy. It should become a place where discipline meets creativity, and where useful knowledge leads to greater dignity for families," he concluded.
