The Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka has started using digital clearance and certificate systems to speed up how students graduate. The Vice-Chancellor, Bond Anyaehie, shared this news in Abuja on Saturday during the 2026 International Convention of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Alumni Association (NAUAA). The theme for the event was "Innovation, Integrity and Inclusion: Rekindling the Zik Vision for a New Era."

Mr Anyaehie, who is a professor, explained that the digital clearance system allows graduating students to complete the process from anywhere in the world. They can expect to receive approval within five days.

He mentioned that this system aims to cut down delays caused by the old manual clearance methods. The university has also set up a system that automatically creates provisional certificates for students after they finish their clearance.

According to him, these certificates will include barcodes. Employers and other institutions can scan these barcodes to verify the certificates.

"Once you finish the clearance, the system generates a provisional certificate for you, which you can download online. It has a barcode, so when you apply for a job, they can scan the barcode, receive an authentication code, and authenticate your certificate," he said.

Mr Anyaehie added that the university has also improved its transcript processing system to make it faster. He said staff in charge of transcripts have been urged to ensure that students and graduates do not face unnecessary delays.

Classroom Improvements

The Vice-Chancellor also spoke about plans to enhance classroom facilities. He stated that students will no longer have to attend lectures in classrooms that lack adequate seating and other essential facilities.

He emphasized that the administration is dedicated to improving the university by working together with alumni and other partners. He appreciated the contributions of the university’s alumni chapters and other supporters, noting that their help has been crucial in carrying out projects and tackling various challenges.

"We are growing a university that fits the name and answers to its name. It is a journey; we have started and we can do more. We will go far if we join our resources and efforts together," he said.
