US Plans to Halt Iranian Flights Worldwide

The US will stop Iranian commercial flights from flying internationally starting Wednesday. This move is part of its plan to impose sanctions that force Iran to meet its demands.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on Monday that all Iranian airlines will be “shut down around the world on September 23.”

The US is targeting foreign companies that still provide services to Iranian airlines. This includes international airports, ground-handling companies, and ticketing agents. If they continue to work with Iranian carriers, they could face US sanctions.

As a result, Iranian airlines will find it hard to get essential services like fuel, landing help, and ticket sales outside Iran. Mr Bessent warned that any airport or company providing fuel, landing services, or ticket sales to Iranian carriers will be “knocked out of the dollar system.”

“If they land, you cannot provide them with fuel, you cannot provide them with landing services, you cannot sell them tickets, or you will be knocked out of the dollar system,” he explained.

US President Donald Trump mentioned on Fox News that his options regarding Iran were “wiping Iran out, letting them rot economically, or making a deal.”

In August, the US introduced new sanctions to further isolate Iran, but progress has been slow. This campaign is called Operation Economic Outcast and mainly targets countries that do business with Iran.

Iran’s aviation industry has already been hit hard by years of US sanctions. These restrictions have made it difficult for Iranian airlines to buy new planes and get spare parts and maintenance services.

This new policy will put even more pressure on the aviation sector.

Earlier, Mr Trump demanded that Tehran “put up the white flag of surrender.” He also threatened to make the Strait of Hormuz US territory.

The US President had warned that “a whole civilization will die… never to be brought back again.”

Despite his predictions that the war would last weeks, it has spread across the region, resulting in the deaths of at least 18 US service members and thousands of others in the Middle East. This has shaken the global economy.

But Mr Bessent told CNBC that the US president is currently in a “deciding mode.” He said, “Very big things are going to be happening in the not-so-distant future.”

He added that the war is likely to end in the coming weeks.
