The second phase of the 2026 Nigeria Basketball Federation and Zenith Bank Plc Women’s Premier League kicks off today. Games will take place at the Basketball Stadium on Niger Street in Port Harcourt and the Indoor Hall at Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria. These venues will host the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences.
MFM Women Basketball Team, winners of the league twice, is still the team to beat in the Atlantic Conference. They won all their matches in the first phase held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
MFM will start their games in Port Harcourt against IGP Queens. IGP Queens struggled in the first phase and ended up at the bottom of the conference without winning a game in Lagos.
On the same day, Victoria Queens, who surprised everyone in the first phase, will play against First Deep Water. First Bank will match up against the defending champions, Dolphins. Bayelsa Blue Whales and Royal Aces will close out the first day of games.
Dolphins will have to play well to keep their title and avoid the risk of relegation. IGP Queens also need to step up to stay in the league.
In the Savannah Conference, Titans will face Kada Angels, who did not show up in Jos during the first phase. NAM Warriors, another team that missed the first phase in Jos, will take on ASO SKY Queens.
Air Warriors will compete against Nasarawa Amazons in the third game today. The last match on Saturday will feature Nigeria Customs facing Plateau Rocks.
The top four teams from each conference will move on to Lagos for the Final 8. This is where this year’s league champion will be determined.
