Yayi: Ogogo Was Set to Be My Tourism and Culture Adviser in 2027

The Ogun State governorship candidate from the All Progressives Congress, Senator Solomon Adeola, known as Yayi, has said that the late actor Taiwo Hassan, who was popularly called Ogogo, would have been his Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture if he won the 2027 election.

Yayi shared this during a condolence visit to Ogogo's family in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Tuesday. He described Ogogo as an elder brother and praised his work in acting, culture, and the preservation of Yoruba heritage.

He mentioned that he had already planned to include Ogogo in his cabinet due to his experience and understanding of Ogun's cultural heritage. Yayi said, "I told God that if it is destined for me to be governor, my elder brother Ogogo will be my Special Adviser on Tourism and Culture. My plan was he will be a Special Adviser that is a cabinet member. I kept it on my chest; I was walking with it; I believed God will do."

He continued, "And the reasons are not far-fetched. He is good at what he does as an actor, a traditional person, as a cultural person. What else do I want? Man proposes, God disposes."

Ogogo, whose real name was Taiwo Hassan, passed away on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after fighting stage-four cancer. Yayi previously called the actor’s death a huge loss to the creative and entertainment industry. He noted that Ogogo was not just a famous actor but also a proud son of Ilaro.

The senator remembered Ogogo’s contributions to Yoruba-language cinema and how he influenced many generations of Nigerians throughout his long career. He also talked about the tough times during Ogogo’s sickness, saying he and others helped the actor and his family to ensure he got medical care.

Yayi said, "We did everything humanly possible to ensure that he received the necessary medical care. Sadly, despite all efforts, Almighty God has pleased to call him home."

He praised Ogogo's talent, humility, and dedication to his work while expressing condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and the people of Ilaro. Ogogo was buried in Ilaro, Ogun State, following Islamic funeral rites. His death has led to many tributes from colleagues, political leaders, fans, and other Nigerians who see him as a key figure in Yoruba cinema.
