Super Eagles midfielder Alhassan Yusuf will be out for about six weeks. He has a hamstring injury. This is why he is not in Eric Chelle’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

Yusuf got injured during a 2-1 win over New York City FC, as reported by The Blazing Musket. He has already missed one match for his club and will miss many more.

The 26-year-old was expected to be part of the squad after a great season in Major League Soccer. Chelle has named two different squads, one for the qualifiers on September 25 and 29, and another for a friendly against Russia next month.

Yusuf made his Super Eagles debut at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in 2024. He started in the 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea but had to leave the game due to injury.

He also played a key role in the squad that won the 2026 Unity Cup. He was impressive in the semi-final match against Zimbabwe and scored two goals in the final to help Nigeria win the title for the fourth time in a row.

Now, Yusuf will focus on getting better in time for the last matches of the MLS season. He hopes to return to the Super Eagles for the remaining qualifiers.
