Trent Alexander-Arnold and Cole Palmer are back in the England squad. This happened on Friday as Thomas Tuchel named his first team since leaving them out of the World Cup.
Real Madrid's right-back Alexander-Arnold is included for the first time since June 2025. Chelsea's forward Palmer has been in good form this season and returns after missing out on the squad that reached the World Cup semi-finals before losing to Argentina.
Also in the 27-man squad are Rio Ngumoha, Alex Scott, and Jarrad Branthwaite. They will join the team for a three-week camp with four games in the Nations League. This camp comes just nine weeks after England returned from the United States.
Liverpool’s young winger Ngumoha impressed during his debut against New Zealand in June. Uncapped Bournemouth midfielder Scott is also included after being part of the pre-tournament training in Florida.
Everton defender Branthwaite is getting his first call-up under Tuchel. He had only one cap in 2024. Lewis Hall, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are also back in the England team.
But not everyone got a call. Phil Foden, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Adam Wharton were left out. Tuchel dropped World Cup squad members Ollie Watkins, Ivan Toney, and Noni Madueke.
“It’s an opportunity for Trent of course. He had a good start to the season, I would say,” Tuchel said.
“He started some matches for Real Madrid. They have good results and it’s a chance for him to claim what he feels is yours, his place on the right side, so here we go.”
England will play their first game since winning the bronze medal at the World Cup. They face world champions Spain at Wembley on September 26. Three days later, they will head to Prague to play the Czech Republic.
After that, England will travel to Croatia, a team they beat in the World Cup group stages. This match is on October 3. They will finish the international window against the Czech Republic at Wembley on October 6.
