The Peoples Democratic Party senatorial candidate for Ogun East, Abdul-Hameed Omotayo, known as OmoOwo, has promised to defeat Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun in the 2027 elections.
In a statement from the OmoOwo Media Office on Friday, the PDP candidate made this promise during the first press meeting of his campaign team at OmoOwo Hall in Ijebu-Ode on Thursday.
Omotayo showed confidence in his chances, saying the election result will show he defeated Abiodun by noon on January 16, 2027.
"I am confident that by 12 noon on January 16, 2027, I will have defeated Dapo Abiodun. Ogun East deserves effective representation, and I am ready to provide it," the statement quoted him as saying.
The media office stated that Omotayo believes the people of Ogun East have waited too long for real representation. He said his candidacy is a step away from what he calls a culture of unfulfilled promises.
"Ogun East does not need more talk about potential. Our people have heard enough of that. What they need, what they deserve, is competent, purposeful representation that delivers practical results. That is what I am offering," he said.
The statement noted that Omotayo has over thirty years of experience in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. He said the gap between the resources available to Ogun East and what it gets from the Federal Government is due to poor representation.
He explained that a senator has specific duties. These include making laws, monitoring the executive, attracting federal help, and making sure that the concerns of constituents are heard in national decisions.
"The role of a senator is specific and consequential. It is to make laws that serve the people, to hold the executive to account, to fight for the constituency’s share of federal allocations, and to ensure that the voices of communities, from Ijebu-Ode to Remo to Ogun Waterside, are heard in the chambers where the decisions that shape their lives are made.
"I know how to do this job. And I am prepared to do it," he said.
On the issue of youth unemployment, the PDP candidate promised to use his connections and influence to help young people in Ogun East get skills training and job chances in the oil and gas sector and related fields.
The statement also mentioned his commitment to seeking federal support for local markets, small businesses, and artisans, which he sees as the economic backbone of communities in the area.
Omotayo plans to work with federal bodies to improve access to the National Health Insurance Authority. He also aims to push for better primary healthcare facilities across the nine local government areas in the district.
He committed to fighting for more funding for public schools, better welfare for teachers, and improved technology in schools. He sees investment in education as key to the district’s economic future.
The statement added that Abayomi Tella, representing the Ogun State PDP chairman, confirmed Omotayo as the party's candidate for the senatorial seat.
Omotayo asked residents in Ijebu, Remo, and Ogun Waterside to judge his goals based on his priorities and promise to deliver results.
"My message to every community in Ogun East is the same: I understand your problems. I know how to do this job. And when you call me, I will answer," he was quoted as saying.
The event was attended by party stakeholders and campaign officials, including Architect Kayode Adebayo, Femi Davies, Hon. Wale Ogunbanjo, former Ijebu East Local Government chairman Wale Adedayo, and the campaign’s director-general.
