The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has promised that his state will give 95 percent of its votes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections. He said this is because the President deserves a second term for the economic changes his government has made.
Governor Abiodun shared this promise on Friday at a meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Lodge in Ibara, Abeokuta.
He pointed out that President Tinubu's reforms have helped to change the country's economy for the better and set a strong base for future growth.
He also praised APC members in Ogun State for holding peaceful primary elections. He said the state has set itself apart from others with its orderly and clear election process.
Abiodun stated that the success of the primaries came from the unity, maturity, and discipline of party members.
"Our primary election was inclusive, transparent, and fair. This was made possible by the commitment and mutual trust among our leaders. Such a process has never happened in the history of our state.
"We sat down, discussed, and chose our candidates without rancour. It shows the political maturity that exists in Ogun State. Though many people contested, only one person could emerge. Those who aspired, contested, and later stepped down in the interest of party unity are the unsung heroes of this process," he said.
On the choice of a running mate for the APC governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, for the 2027 elections, Governor Abiodun said the party has decided to zone the deputy governor position to Ogun East Senatorial District, especially the Ijebu area, since the governorship candidate is from Ogun West Senatorial District.
"We recognise the need to start political activities seriously, and only one key position is left to fill, the Deputy Governor's office. We consulted widely with party leaders and agreed that the position should go to Ogun East.
"Since I am the senatorial candidate for Ogun East and I am from Remoland, it was decided that the Ijebu people should produce the Deputy Governor.
"We have also agreed on the area within Ijebuland from which the candidate should come, which is the Ijebu-Ode Federal Constituency. That was one of the main reasons for today’s meeting," he said.
The governor congratulated the people of Ogun West Senatorial District for producing the party’s governorship candidate for the upcoming election. He noted that his government had ended a 50-year period where the district did not have a governorship candidate since the state was created.
Abiodun called this a significant achievement in the state's political history. He also highlighted the APC’s commitment to fairness, inclusiveness, and equal sharing of power among the three senatorial districts.
He added that his government will use technology to fight banditry and kidnapping while improving security across the state. He stressed that the people deserve a strong security system that protects lives and property, especially children who represent the future.
The governor mentioned that after investing heavily in infrastructure, his government will now focus more on human capital development and social investment programs to help residents cope with current economic challenges.
He repeated his commitment to bettering the lives of the people and ensuring that the benefits of democracy are felt in all areas of the state.
In his welcome speech, the State Chairman of the APC, Yemi Sanusi, also praised party members for their good behavior during and after the primaries.
He noted that the meeting was called to plan how to win the 2027 elections.
