The police in Anambra State have arrested a 22-year-old woman named Blessing Nwachukwu. She is accused of conspiracy, fraud, and staging her own kidnapping. This came after her family paid a ransom of N3 million.
Blessing is said to have worked with a female friend known as Onyinye and another man whose name is not known. They planned her kidnapping to get money from her family.
On Sunday, the police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu arrested her on Friday. This happened after they received credible information.
Ikenga explained that Blessing was reportedly kidnapped along the Onitsha, Asaba Expressway on August 29. After her family paid the N3 million ransom, she was still not released. This led the police to dig deeper into the case.
The police statement said, “The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, following credible intelligence received in the course of an investigation into a reported kidnapping incident.”
It continued, “The lady was reportedly abducted along the Onitsha, Asaba Expressway on August 29, 2026. However, despite the payment of N3 million ransom by her family, she was allegedly not released, prompting further investigation by the Police.”
On September 18, 2026, police found Blessing in a room in Asaba, Delta State. They had tracked her down after gathering information.
The police also found out that Blessing supposedly planned the kidnapping with Onyinye and another man. The identities of her accomplices are still not known.
Ikenga mentioned that Blessing is currently helping the police with information. This will help them understand what happened and catch her accomplices.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Ama, has ordered the investigation to continue. He wants to find out everything about the case and ensure that anyone involved is punished according to the law.
