Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have released 416 people who were kidnapped from Ngoshe in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Samaila Kaigama, the President of the Borno South Youth Alliance, confirmed this news to PUNCH Metro on Sunday. He said the captives were set free on Saturday.
Earlier reports from April 10 showed that BOSYA had been talking to the media and acted as a link between the terrorists and the victims. This was when Boko Haram displayed the kidnapped people.
Kaigama said, “BOSYA has secured the release of all the Ngoshe 416 women and children. They were released on the 6th of June.”
He added, “We are happy and grateful that through our efforts, our persistent cries, and long discussions, the results are now being seen.”
Kaigama urged the Federal Government, the Borno State Government, and local authorities to make sure the released captives are properly screened.
Attempts to reach Usman Tar, the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, for his comments were unsuccessful. Several calls to him went unanswered as of the time of writing this report.
It is important to remember that on March 4, PUNCH Online reported that Boko Haram attacked a military base in Ngoshe. They burned vehicles, scattered security forces, killed some people, and kidnapped several others.
