A total of 689 athletes from 14 i-Fitness branches in Lagos Mainland will compete at the Legacy Pitch, National Stadium, Surulere, on Saturday, November 7.
The fitness chain shared this news in a statement on Tuesday. This event is called GameFest 2.0, the Mainland Edition of its sports and fitness competition between branches.
The theme for this year is "Different Squad, Unstoppable Together" and it starts at 7.30 am.
Athletes will participate in football, the 100m sprint, the 200m relay, a sack race, and an all-day lifting challenge.
The football competition will be a knockout tournament. Eight teams will make it to the final stage after the preliminary matches. The teams are Magodo, Ogudu, Ikorodu, Iponri, Surulere, Ago Palace, Opebi, and Acme.
More than 3,500 people have signed up to attend, including over 2,300 i-Fitness members. The first GameFest, called GameFest 1.0 Island Edition, had over 1,500 participants. Now, registrations for the second edition have already doubled that number.
Foluso Ogunwale, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of i-Fitness, said the event shows how the community has grown.
“When we started i-Fitness, our goal was to build a community of people who choose to live healthier lives. GameFest is where you see that community at its best.
“14 branches, close to 700 competitors, and thousands of supporters on the National Stadium pitch show how far that community has come. We are proud of every member who has trained for this day, and we invite Lagos to come out and watch,” Ogunwale stated.
Olajumoke Abiodun, the Chief Marketing Officer, said the turnout proves that Nigerians want fitness to be part of their social lives.
“GameFest gives our members a reason to train with purpose and a day to celebrate what they have built together. Our first edition brought out over 1,500 people, and this year more than 3,500 have registered. That tells us people want fitness to be social, competitive, and fun,” she said.
Guests will also enjoy an Afro-dance warm-up, a live DJ, a closing dance-off, and a healthy food and fitness marketplace. Champions will receive trophies, medals, and prizes during the closing ceremony.
i-Fitness has over 31 branches, 500 certified trainers, and more than 40 free weekly classes across Nigeria.
The brand's partners include Pocari Sweat, Red Bull, Rexona, Nirvana Water, MOL, Cold Stone Creamery, Pinkberry, Zayith Food Company, Uncover, and Cosmo Cosmetics.
