The Lagos State Chairman of Accord, Oladele Oladeji, has asked for clarity on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s reported role as coordinator of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Osun.
Mr Oladeji said this appointment raises questions about what it means for Accord’s political identity and chances in elections.
In an open letter to the party’s national leadership on Saturday, he questioned Mr Adeleke’s loyalty since he became governor under Accord’s platform.
“Our letter was a genuine expression of concern about the implications of Governor Adeleke’s reported role in President Tinubu’s 2027 campaign in Osun,” he said.
Mr Oladeji stated that his comments were not meant to interfere with the duties of the National Working Committee or any other party body.
“A concerned party member does not need special permission to ask questions about the direction of the party to which they belong,” he said.
He pointed out that his intervention was a legitimate concern about the party’s future, not an effort to challenge its leadership or rules.
Mr Oladeji recognized Mr Adeleke’s right to make his own political choices. But he argued that these choices must align with Accord’s interests.
He said that since Mr Adeleke is the elected governor from the party, his political decisions are important for the party’s public image and for the candidates and members.
“Accord’s independent political direction, the electoral chances of the party’s candidates and the party’s national goals require a clear loyalty to the party’s electoral ambitions and objectives,” he said.
Mr Oladeji urged Mr Adeleke to stay focused on the electoral success of Accord candidates across the country. He reminded that party members supported him during his election as governor.
He added that political cooperation is not bad, but party members and candidates need to understand the terms, goals, and effects of such cooperation.
“Our concern is whether the terms, objectives, and consequences of such cooperation are clear enough to the members and candidates who must present the party’s name to the voters,” he said.
Mr Oladeji confirmed his stance in the original letter, stating that he will keep seeking clarity from the right party authorities.
He said his aim is to promote accountability and protect the interests of Accord and its candidates, not to start unnecessary arguments.
He urged the party’s national leadership to clarify its political direction and explain what the reported arrangement means for members and the public.
“We will continue to express our concerns respectfully, rely on clear facts, and defend the right of party members to seek clarity about the future of their political platform,” he said.
