British actor Anthony Head, famous for his roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ted Lasso, Merlin, and Little Britain, has passed away at 72.
His family confirmed on Friday that he died due to complications from pneumonia while surrounded by loved ones.
Head became well-known for his role as Rupert Giles in the popular teen series Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the late 1990s.
He also appeared in several well-loved shows, including the sketch comedy Little Britain, where he had a recurring part, and the BBC fantasy series Merlin, where he played King Uther Pendragon.
He later starred in the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso as Rupert Mannion, a former owner of a football club.
In a statement, his daughters Emily and Daisy said, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father.”
They shared that he died peacefully and called it an honour to be his daughters.
“It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many,” they added.
They mentioned that he would be missed by friends, colleagues, and fans, saying that he “loved his job very much” and always felt lucky to do it.
Head’s career also included roles in The Iron Lady, Doctor Who, The Inbetweeners, Persuasion, and Manchild.
