Nollywood actor Jimmy Rolland has said that his ex-wife tricked him into thinking she was a virgin before they got married. He described finding out the truth on their wedding night as one of the biggest letdowns of his life.

In a chat on the African A-List podcast, shared on Saturday, Rolland said he ignored many red flags before marrying his ex-wife because he believed she was honest.

"I am not a fool. I saw signs, but I was hypnotised by my mother-in-law," he said.

Rolland mentioned that his mother and some friends warned him against the marriage after they consulted spiritually.

"My mother and friends made spiritual consultations and warned me not to marry her, but I did not listen," he said.

The actor shared that he and his ex-wife dated for four years before tying the knot. During that time, she often told him she was a virgin.

"She told me she was a virgin, so I did not bother to make attempts to make love to her. We dated for four good years," Rolland said.

He explained that after their introduction, she insisted they wait until after the wedding to be intimate.

"After our introduction, she said, ‘Till the wedding night.’ I had to wait for some months, then on the wedding night, it ended up to be a lie," he said.

Rolland admitted he was heartbroken by this discovery and thought about ending the relationship back then.

"I was disappointed, and I should have walked away, but I did not. It was not me," he said.

Looking back on the failed marriage, the actor said the hardest part was losing access to his two children after the split.

"What was disheartening is that we have two kids together, and she took them away."

He claimed that the emotional pain from being apart from his children later affected his health.

"Because of the children she took away, I had a stroke.

Because of too much thinking about those children, I had a stroke," he said.

Rolland added that his mother also feels the impact of the separation from her grandchildren.

"My mother still cries because she wants to see those children," Rolland said.

The actor did not say when the marriage ended or if there are any ongoing legal issues over custody of the children.
