Nollywood Yoruba actor Taofeek Adewale, known as Digboluja, has shared his experience with veteran actress Peju Ogunmola during a movie shoot in 2023.
The issue arose from a scene where Adewale shot a prop gun at Ogunmola, which made her very angry.
In a video that went viral on social media on Monday, Ogunmola voiced her disappointment about what happened.
After the gun was fired, she turned and confronted Adewale. Surprised, Adewale listened as Ogunmola said, “I don’t like it, you know I don’t like it when a gun is pointed at me. You didn’t tell me. I was told he (Adewale) would use an object to hit me. What rubbish!”
Adewale responded, “At first, I didn’t want to pull the trigger. I thought you had told her.”
In another interview that was shared online, Adewale explained that the script he read said he was to play the role of a warrior.
He visited Ogunmola, who played Iyalode in the movie, to discuss an issue with her. He said, “I read the movie script; I acted as a warrior. When I went to meet the woman at home to talk to her, and she didn’t oblige, I shot at her.”
Adewale also mentioned, “I knew Aunty Peju doesn’t like guns, so I told the movie director. He replied that he had informed her.”
He continued, saying that the director mentioned Ogunmola doesn’t like guns, but she doesn’t mind if she is “prepared” for it.
On the set, Adewale and Ogunmola began their scene as planned. After some dialogues, he shot the gun, which made her very upset.
When the presenter asked what she was supposed to do when she heard the gunshot, he replied, “She was supposed to fall on the ground.”
When asked why she didn’t fall, he explained, “It met her by surprise. He didn’t inform her that a gun would be shot. She believed I would hit her with an object.”
Adewale shared that Ogunmola got angry after the incident. “Some people asked me what I would have done if she slapped me or rough-handled me,” he said. He added, “If she slapped me 12 times, I won’t say a word. Once she has slapped me thrice, I will run away because she is a mother to me. I was also pained about the incident.”
After hearing Adewale's story, some people praised him for staying calm. Others blamed some crew members for the problem.
One X user, Eminent Kayode, wrote, “My respect for this man increased by ten folds.”
Another user, OyinAtiBode, commented, “The director is an evil person who can’t be trusted. He probably deliberately wants them to do it; maybe that will destroy her power. He used Adewale. I love how mama remained respectful to Adewale even when angry, and she’s way older.”
Another X user, Oluwaseun, said, “Everyone can tell she’s a genuinely good woman…she has the look, she has the temperament, she has the humility, she’s just a superb woman all around.”
