A man has caused a lot of anger online after a video showed him beating a toddler repeatedly.
In the video shared on X by @NigeriaStories on Wednesday, the man, who is shirtless and wearing green shorts, hits the child on the head with what looks like a charger cable.
The beating sends the child to the tiled floor, where she cries out in pain.
The man keeps hitting the child, who tries to shield her head with her hands while crying on the ground.
You can hear the man shouting at the child, saying, “Ori ẹ o ma pe,” a Yoruba phrase meaning “knocking sense into someone.”
He then bends down to force the crying child back up.
The video has received strong backlash on social media, with many Nigerians demanding that the man be found and arrested.
On Wednesday, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons responded to the viral video, stating that child abuse will not be tolerated.
“We have noted the viral video and are working with relevant security agencies to identify, locate, and prosecute the perpetrator to the full extent of the law,” NAPTIP said on its X handle.
The agency asked anyone with useful information to reach out via direct message, email at [email protected], or the shortcode 627.
It also emphasized its commitment to protecting children and making sure that those responsible for such actions face justice.
