The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, Senator David Mark, will launch the party’s Presidential Campaign Council on Friday. This event will kick off the campaign for the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration is set for 4pm at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. Major leaders of the party and candidates looking for positions on the ADC platform will attend the event.
On Thursday, Kola Ologbondiyan, the Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Publicity, released a statement. He said the ceremony is an important step in the party’s plans for the 2027 elections.
Ologbondiyan mentioned that all ADC leaders, governorship candidates, National Assembly candidates, and State House of Assembly candidates are expected at the event.
He noted that the inauguration will formally start the party’s presidential campaign structure as they prepare for a nationwide campaign. "The inauguration formally sets the stage for the ADC presidential campaign machinery ahead of the 2027 general elections," he said.
This event comes as political parties ramp up their efforts for the 2027 elections. The ADC is positioning itself as a strong opposition party against the ruling All Progressives Congress.
In recent months, the ADC has been working hard to build its structures across Nigeria and organize its campaign activities ahead of the polls. Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar holds the ADC presidential ticket, which has placed the party at the center of efforts by opposition politicians to unite before the 2027 presidential election.
The launch of the PCC is expected to help the party's presidential campaign structure work more smoothly. Party leaders and candidates will focus on delivering a common campaign message.
The Friday event will also allow the party leadership to share its priorities and plans as the election season heats up. Ologbondiyan encouraged party leaders and candidates to fully participate in the inauguration.
He said the gathering would highlight the need for unity and coordination among different parts of the party’s campaign structure as the ADC gets ready to share its message with voters across Nigeria.
Atiku had previously appointed Abia lawmaker, Senator Austin Akobundu, as the Director-General of the Campaign Council. He described this as a lean Presidential Campaign Council.
