Adeleke says Tinubu congratulated him on Osun win, expects Oyebamiji to do same

The re-elected Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu called to congratulate him after his victory in Saturday’s governorship election. He also said he is waiting for his main opponent, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, to do the same.

Mr Adeleke called his re-election a win for democracy and the people of Osun State. He thanked the president for supporting the democratic process.

After the election results were announced, the governor shared that Mr Tinubu personally called him.
“I want to seize this opportunity to thank Mr President. Mr President has called me and congratulated me. Thank you, Mr President, for making sure democracy lives on because you fought for it,” he said.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Mr Adeleke the winner after he received 511,067 votes across the state. His closest rival, Mr Oyebamiji, scored 444,815 votes. The candidate from the African Democratic Congress, Najeem Salaam, came in third with 17,180 votes.

Mr Adeleke said his victory came from the people appreciating what his administration has done, especially in infrastructure, healthcare, and security.
“I thank God Almighty for this victory. It’s a victory for democracy. Victory for Osun election.”

The governor pointed out that the result shows the people’s support for the projects and programs his administration has carried out across the state.
“The victory is a way Osun people are repaying me for the infrastructural developments, health, security, and other things I have delivered for my people,” he added.

Mr Adeleke mentioned that the election should not be seen as just a contest between winners and losers. He emphasized that there was “no victor, no vanquished.”
He expressed hope that Mr Oyebamiji would accept the outcome and personally congratulate him.
“It’s no victor, no vanquished. I am expecting the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to call me and congratulate me,” Mr Adeleke said.

The governor's win gives him another four-year term after he first won the governorship in 2022 with the Peoples Democratic Party.
