Adeyemi Finally Appears in Court Over Fake Agency Charges

Adeniyi Adeyemi, the man accused of running a fake government agency, has shown up in the Federal High Court in Abuja for arraignment. This comes after multiple failed attempts to get him into court.

Mr Adeyemi entered the courtroom around 2:33 p.m. on Wednesday. He wore a long white dress and a white baseball cap.

A female police officer from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) escorted him. Although he looked cheerful, he kept his head down. The cap partly covered his face as he waited for the case to be called.

This appearance follows a string of unsuccessful attempts to arraign him since last year. Delays happened for various reasons, including requests from his lawyers, his absence, and the judge being busy. The case was supposed to be heard on 3 February, but it did not happen.

The case started in November 2025 after police arrested Mr Adeyemi in October that year. This was after a petition from Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.

The police charged Mr Adeyemi and two others, Femi and Anu, who are currently on the run. They face eight counts of conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation.

In counts one, two, three, four, six, seven, and eight, the prosecution claims that Mr Adeyemi and the others worked together to forge several official documents. These include a fake presidential appointment letter, State House letterheads, and a request for staff accounts and office space for the fake Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

In count five, the prosecution states that Mr Adeyemi falsely claimed to be the Director-General of PFIPC. This is a serious offence under Section 179 of the Penal Code. Mr Adeyemi has denied all the charges.

Police investigators found correspondence between the fake agency and various government bodies. They also traced 34 bank accounts linked to Mr Adeyemi, including nine accounts opened in the names of fake government agencies.

On 14 July, after Mr Adeyemi missed another arraignment, Judge Umar issued a warrant for his arrest. This was after the prosecution made an oral request.

Police arrested him less than 12 hours later. Anietie Iniedu, the police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest to PREMIUM TIMES.

The police said he was arrested in Osun State by the Intelligence Response Team from Abuja after tracking him to a hideout.

He has been in police custody since then, waiting for this arraignment. Judge Umar issued the warrant after Mr Adeyemi’s lawyer, Genesis Francis, told the court that his client did not appear because he feared for his life. He also mentioned that Mr Adeyemi wrote an open letter to President Tinubu.

Mr Francis said his client wants to stay alive to face the trial.
