Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a man named Kingsley Odo. He allegedly traveled from Anambra State to Oyo State to take revenge for the deaths of his father and brother.
The police spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, shared this news in a video on the X account of Oyo Affairs on Monday.
Ayanlade said the police caught the suspect during a stop-and-search operation along Ife Road. They found a locally made pistol and a cartridge in his possession. Preliminary questioning showed he came from Anambra State intending to carry out a revenge killing.
"He came all the way from Anambra to avenge the deaths of his father and brother. The operatives of the Safer Highways, while conducting a stop-and-search operation along Ife Road, intercepted a commercial bus.
"During a search, they discovered a cut-to-size pistol and a cartridge. Further questioning revealed that he had traveled all the way from Anambra State to carry out a revenge killing," the spokesperson said.
Odo spoke to journalists and explained that he had been working in Benue State since 2021. He received the sad news that his brother, who was in school in Awka, Anambra State, had been killed.
He added that his mother passed away a few weeks after his brother's death. This made him determined to avenge his brother's killing.
"Since 2021, I have been working in Benue State. My brother was schooling in Awka, and I received information that he had died and that somebody killed him in the school.
"When the matter was going on, I came back. A few weeks after my brother died, my mother also died. So, I told my brother that the person who killed him would face the consequences. Since then, the matter has been going on," Odo said.
The suspect admitted he bought the pistol from a friend, a hunter, for N20,000.
"I bought the pistol from my friend, who is a hunter. He sold it to me for N20,000," he said.
Odo also said he got information that the person who allegedly caused his brother's death was living in a Yoruba-speaking state. He claimed he did not know the exact location.
He added that he was being guided by the person who gave him the information before the police arrested him.
"I got information that the boy was living in a Yoruba state, so I decided to find out where he was living. Along the way, I was caught by the police.
"I was coming from Awka to take revenge, but I did not know the exact place. The information given to me by the person leading me was with me. I belong to the Vikings cult group," he said.
Ayanlade mentioned that the suspect is under further investigation to clarify his connections and understand what happened. He praised the Safer Highways operatives for their alertness, saying the arrest helped prevent a possible violent situation.
The spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing to find out more about the suspect's involvement and to identify any other people linked to the case.
