APC Chairman Yilwatda Takes Two-Week Break Before 2027 Elections

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has started a two-week break outside Nigeria. The party said this comes after a tough first year in his role.

A statement from Abimbola Tooki, who is the Special Adviser to the National Chairman on Media and Information Strategy, was released on Wednesday. It said the vacation will help Yilwatda rest, recharge, and think about the tasks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement mentioned that Yilwatda has spent the last year deeply involved in party activities. This includes consultations, travels, and meetings aimed at making the ruling party stronger and better positioned.

Since he became chairman, Yilwatda has collaborated with the National Working Committee (NWC), governors, National Assembly members, state party leaders, and other important figures to boost the party for the 2027 elections.

Achievements Under Yilwatda

The statement pointed out that the successful organization of the APC National Convention, strengthening the party’s internal structures, and holding primary elections at different levels are some of his key achievements.

"These achievements, coming within a relatively short period, have further consolidated the APC’s position as Nigeria’s leading political party and one of Africa’s largest and most formidable political organisations," the statement said.

The party made it clear that Yilwatda’s vacation should not be seen as him stepping away from his duties. Instead, it is described as "an opportunity to step back briefly from the intensity of day-to-day activities, recharge and reflect on the enormous responsibilities ahead."

According to the statement, during this break, the APC chairman will also focus on sharpening his strategic thinking for the 2027 elections. The party sees this election as a key moment for them and for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

Plans for the Future

Yilwatda is expected to use this time to think about the next steps for the party and finalize plans for an upcoming National Working Committee retreat. This retreat will give the NWC a chance to review the party’s progress, spot new challenges, and agree on plans for the future.

The statement added that this retreat would also help improve coordination within the NWC and get the party ready for the 2027 election period.

The APC reassured that Yilwatda's time away will not disrupt the party's operations. The NWC will keep carrying out its duties according to the party’s rules and procedures.

"The APC National Chairman remains fully committed to the party and its objectives," the statement confirmed.

Yilwatda is expected to be back in Nigeria after the two-week vacation to continue his official work.
