APC Prepares for 2027 Elections, Says Party Chairman

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has said it is ready for the 2027 general elections. The party's National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, announced this during a news conference on Saturday. This was after the committee's three-day retreat in Maiduguri.

Mr Yilwatda explained that they reviewed the party’s structures across the country. This includes the national, state, local government, and ward levels down to polling units. He mentioned that the assessment showed the party is in good shape, saying they have a “clean bill of health.” The NWC believes the APC is strong and prepared for the upcoming elections.

The chairman also mentioned that the NWC expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and other candidates from the party’s primary elections. He added that they will work on reconciling differences at the state, local, and ward levels to strengthen the party.

Mr Yilwatda urged state chapters that have not set up reconciliation committees to do so. He believes this will help the party unite as they approach the elections. The NWC will also take an active part in campaigns to communicate the policies of the Tinubu administration to Nigerians.

The committee reviewed results from recent off-cycle and by-elections and was happy with the APC’s performance. Mr Yilwatda pointed out Ogun and Delta as states where the party previously struggled but won in recent elections.

He reported that the APC won four out of five elections held the previous week, losing only one. He described their performance in the lost election as strong. He thanked the Borno government for hosting the retreat and expressed gratitude to journalists for their coverage.

Mr Yilwatda also extended condolences to the government and people of Niger over the death of 37 miners.
