Arepo Community Left in Darkness After Power Facility Damage

Electricity supply has been cut off in Arepo, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. This happened after an insulator broke at the Transmission Company of Nigeria's site.

Residents are now waiting for the TCN maintenance team to fix the issue before Ikeja Electric can bring back the power. Akinlolu Akinpelumi, the Secretary of the Arepo Area Community Development Council Electricity Committee, shared this update with residents on Monday.

"The fault, reportedly caused by a shattered insulator, is currently being attended to by the TCN Maintenance Crew," Akinpelumi stated.

He added that repair work was in progress. He hopes the TCN engineers will fix the problem quickly so Ikeja Electric can restore power to Arepo.

"We have been informed that repair work is ongoing. We can only hope that the TCN engineers will be able to resolve the fault in good time so that IE can restore power to our community," he said.

Akinpelumi assured the residents that the committee would keep an eye on the situation and follow up with the necessary authorities until the electricity is back.

"Please be assured that we will continue to monitor the situation and follow up until supply is restored. As soon as we receive any further update, we will not hesitate to communicate it," he added.

This latest power outage comes as Arepo residents have been complaining about poor electricity supply and long blackouts. The community, which is growing fast along the Lagos-Ogun road, has faced these issues for a while now.

In an earlier report, PUNCH revealed that residents had threatened to take legal action due to a four-month stretch of severe outages. During this time, they claimed they had only two hours of electricity each day, even after being upgraded to Band B in the service-based tariff system.

Community leaders and residents have talked to Ikeja Electric several times about the poor supply. They say the lack of electricity has hurt businesses and made daily life tough.

The AACDC Electricity Committee has also been in touch with Ikeja Electric and the transmission authorities to solve the ongoing issues.

Residents are now waiting for the repairs to be finished and for the electricity supply to return to their community.
