Power Outage Hits Ogun Community After Equipment Damage

Electricity supply has stopped in Arepo, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. This problem started because an insulator broke at the Transmission Company of Nigeria's end of the network.

Residents are now waiting for the TCN maintenance team to fix the problem. Only then can Ikeja Electric restore power to the community. Akinlolu Akinpelumi, who is the Secretary of the Arepo Area Community Development Council Electricity Committee, shared this information in a statement on Monday.

“The fault, reportedly caused by a shattered insulator, is currently being attended to by the TCN Maintenance Crew,” Akinpelumi said.

He mentioned that the repair work is in progress. He hopes the TCN engineers will fix the issue quickly so Ikeja Electric can bring back power to the community.

“We have been informed that repair work is ongoing. We can only hope that the TCN engineers will be able to resolve the fault in good time so that IE can restore power to our community,” he stated.

Akinpelumi reassured residents that the committee would keep an eye on the situation. They will also follow up with the relevant authorities until power is back on.

“Please be assured that we will continue to monitor the situation and follow up until supply is restored. As soon as we receive any further update, we will not hesitate to communicate it,” he added.

This latest outage is part of ongoing problems that Arepo residents have faced with poor electricity supply and long blackouts. This community is growing quickly along the Lagos-Ogun route.

In a previous report, PUNCH noted that residents threatened to take legal action after facing four months of severe outages. They reported getting barely two hours of electricity a day, even after being upgraded to Band B under the service-based tariff plan.

Community leaders and residents have spoken to Ikeja Electric many times about the poor supply. They said this has hurt businesses and made daily life hard.

The AACDC Electricity Committee has been in contact with Ikeja Electric and the transmission authorities to tackle these ongoing issues.

Residents are now looking forward to the repairs being finished and electricity supply returning to their community.
