Arokodare shines with two goals as Ajax reaches UEFA Conference League

Tolu Arokodare had a great first start for Ajax. He scored two goals as Ajax won 5-3 against FC Sion. This victory secured their spot in the league phase of the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.

Ajax finished with a 9-5 aggregate win at the Johan Cruyff ArenA. They had also won the first leg 4-2.

Arokodare almost scored earlier when he hit the woodwork after the break. He got his first goal in first-half stoppage time, shooting from a tough angle to put Ajax back in the lead.

The 25-year-old Nigerian added his second goal in the 51st minute. This came after a nice play with Youssef Ouazane and Mika Godts, making it 4-2 for Ajax on the night.

He was substituted a bit later to a big cheer from the fans. Marcos Leonardo took his place as Ajax comfortably finished the match.

Arokodare’s two goals bring his total to three goals and two assists in five games since joining Ajax.

Ajax started strong when Youri Baas scored just 33 seconds into the game. But FC Sion equalized with a goal from Winsley Boteli after 19 minutes.

Boteli then put Sion ahead before Davy Klaassen equalized for Ajax. This set up Arokodare to score again just before half-time.

Arokodare struck again early in the second half before substitute Oliver Edvardsen scored Ajax’s fifth goal.

Boteli completed his hat-trick in the 90th minute, but it wasn’t enough for Sion. Ajax moved on easily with a 9-5 aggregate win.

This result gives Arokodare a promising start in Amsterdam. The Nigerian striker is making a strong impact after his summer move to the Eredivisie giants.
