A man suspected of kidnapping a woman in Rivers State has been arrested. Victor Ini, 35, said he joined the gang after they promised him N40,000 for the job.
Ini shared this information in a video released on Wednesday by Blessing Agabe, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer. He is from Akwa Ibom State.
He explained that the gang's plan was to take the woman from her shop, get money from her, and then let her go. Ini claimed that a neighbour of the woman, named Chukwuebuka, sent them to carry out the attack. Chukwuebuka told them the woman had money.
Ini said this was his first time working with the gang and he had not earned any money from the plan. He stated, “We went to the woman’s shop to collect money from her, then drop her and leave. Her neighbour, Chukwuebuka, was the one who sent us on the attack. He told us the man had plenty of money and would give us. It was my first day with them. They had been monitoring her, but it was my first time.”
“The people working with me are Chukwuebuka, Chinedu, Okwozichi and Evance. This is my first time in the business and I have not made any money. They promised to give me N40,000.”
In another statement from Agabe, it was revealed that Ini was arrested during an operation after the kidnapping of a woman named Loveth. Loveth was taken on September 2, 2026, while sitting in front of her shop.
Agabe said that the kidnappers shot guns into the air before forcing Loveth into a vehicle and driving away. Police from the Eleme Police Division worked on intelligence to track the suspects, leading to a shootout in which Ini was captured.
She stated, “On September 2, 2026, Loveth, while seated in front of her shop, was reportedly accosted by armed men who fired shots into the air before forcefully abducting her and taking her away in a vehicle.”
“During the operation, the Police operatives engaged the suspected kidnappers, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. The operatives successfully arrested one member of the gang, one Victor Ini, male, aged 35 years, a native of Akwa Ibom State.”
The PPRO said that a silver Keke bus with registration number RBC 992 XE from Abuja was seized from the suspects.
She added, “One silver-coloured mini Keke bus, with registration number RBC 992 XE, Abuja, was recovered. Also recovered were two locally made pistols, one live ammunition, one mobile phone, two identity cards, two black gowns and one vehicle number plate with registration number KRK 528 HG.”
Agabe mentioned that they are working to identify and arrest other gang members.
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, assured the public that the police will continue to protect lives and property and bring criminals to justice. He warned criminals that there will be no safe place for them in the state.
The police urged the public to stay alert and provide useful information that can help them fight crime.
