Arsenal scored late to defeat Nottingham Forest and stay close to Premier League leaders Manchester City on Sunday. Meanwhile, Manchester United struggled again, settling for a draw against Leeds.
The Gunners played Forest a day after City celebrated a seventh straight win at home against Ipswich. This came despite the club facing serious issues from a guilty verdict on financial matters.
Arsenal worked hard against Oliver Glasner’s team, who are having a tough time this season. They finally broke through in the 80th minute when substitute Noni Madueke's shot deflected off Jair Cunha and into the net.
That goal was Arsenal’s only shot on target during a game that lacked attacking flair. Still, the team has shown they can win even when not playing their best.
With this 1-0 win, Mikel Arteta’s team climbed back to second place in the league, just three points behind City. Forest, which failed to take advantage of late opportunities, now finds itself in the relegation zone.
“We had to earn it until the last second,” Arteta told the BBC. “They are a well-coached team and hard to break down.
“We had to take risks; they are a dangerous team. We had to manage the emotional part really well. We stayed focused and the finishers made a huge impact.”
