Taiwo Awoniyi scored his first goal for Coventry City on Tuesday. He found the net in their EFL Cup match against Plymouth, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

The Nigerian striker needed only three minutes to score. He finished calmly to give the Sky Blues the early lead.

Jack Rudoni added a second goal for Coventry just two minutes later. But Plymouth responded with a goal from Oliver Irow midway through the first half.

Awoniyi joined Coventry, a newly promoted Premier League team, on a permanent deal from Nottingham Forest. The transfer was worth about £9m before the season began.

The 29-year-old spent the last four seasons playing in the Premier League with Forest. He scored 21 league goals in 90 matches and 23 goals in 103 games across all competitions.

In his first season at the City Ground, he netted 11 goals. This helped Forest stay up in the Premier League and reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Awoniyi was also part of the team that finished seventh. This performance qualified them for European football in the 2024/25 season. He became an important player for the squad.
