Barau FC kept their unbeaten start in the Nigeria Premier Football League after a 1-1 draw with Sporting Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Saturday.
The Maliya Boys came to Lagos fresh from a 2-0 win over Abia Warriors on Matchday 5. They took the lead in the 34th minute when Joseph Atule scored from the penalty spot.
Barau had completed their last training session at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Friday. They were eager to build on their strong start to the season.
After halftime, Sporting Lagos fought back. Sodiqu equalized in the 60th minute, and both teams ended the match sharing the points.
This draw means Barau have now gone six matches without a loss. They have three wins and three draws, earning 12 points out of a possible 18.
The Maliya Boys have become one of the surprising teams in the early NPFL season. Saturday’s draw continued their impressive performance.
Sporting Lagos also came into the match after a 3-2 away win against nine-time champions Enyimba at the Aba Township Stadium on Matchday 5. They could not grab another win at home this time.
Barau will aim to keep their unbeaten streak going when the NPFL continues. Sporting Lagos will try to get back to winning ways in their next game.
