Bayelsa PDP Chairman Says Politics Needs Strong Hearts

The Bayelsa State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, George Turnah, has said the party is ready for the 2028 governorship election. He insisted that the party would not be scared by recent political changes in the state.

Turnah spoke on Sunday at Elebele Community in Ogbia Local Government Area. This was during the welcome of former All Progressives Congress member Gabriel Claudius, known as the “One Million Man,” and his supporters into the PDP.

He called Claudius’ return a big boost for the party’s grassroots efforts. He urged party members to start getting ready for the next governorship election.

According to him, politics needs commitment, organization, and ongoing grassroots work. He added that hard work is what brings victory.

"Politics is not for the weak. It is not enough to say you are popular or that you have supporters. You must continue to work until INEC declares your candidate the winner," he said.

Turnah rejected claims that the PDP would be weakened by recent political events in Bayelsa. He insisted that the party is strong and ready for the upcoming governorship election.

He stated that the PDP has pinpointed key constituencies in the state and plans to focus its resources on winning them.

"This is one constituency that means a lot to us, and we will work very hard to win it.

"We are not here to campaign today; we are here to welcome our brother, Gabriel Claudius, and his supporters back into the PDP.

"We have the structure, the people, and the capacity to win. Victory depends on our preparation," he said.

The PDP chairman also urged the party’s House of Assembly candidate to keep up her energy. He said her determination has shown the party leadership that she is ready for what lies ahead.

He mentioned that the party has the structure, experience, and ability to win future elections.

Turnah, who was the running mate to former Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva in the last election, said that experience gave him a clear idea of what it takes to win elections.

He encouraged party members to stay united and boost grassroots efforts before the official campaign starts.
