The Bayelsa State Athletics Association will hold trials on Monday, August 31, 2026. They want to select track and field athletes to represent the state at the first National Intermediate Games in Lagos.
The aim is to find talented young athletes from Bayelsa State. These athletes will compete in the national event and show their skills in various track and field events.
Mr Tariye Jackson Bidei, the Secretary of the Bayelsa State Athletics Association, said that athletes interested in the 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres, and 1,500 metres are welcome to join the trials. Those competing in field events like javelin, shot put, long jump, and high jump can also participate.
The association noted that only athletes below 19 years old can take part. They clarified that the Intermediate Games is for athletes born from January 1, 2008, to September 30, 2011. This age requirement is key for selection.
The trials will be held at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Ovom. They will start at 8 a.m. on Monday.
Games masters and sports coordinators from secondary schools across the state are encouraged to bring their best athletes to the venue.
The association asked eligible athletes and schools to seize this chance. They emphasized that the trials will help discover young talents who can represent Bayelsa State at the national level.
