Bayern Munich played a goalless draw against Schalke in Gelsenkirchen. This result ended Bayern's impressive streak of scoring in 59 straight competitive matches, as reported by BBC Sport on Saturday.

Luis Diaz nearly broke the deadlock for Bayern but missed two great chances before and after half-time.

The Colombian forward first shot wide in a one-on-one against Loris Karius. Later, he attempted to chip the Schalke goalkeeper, but the ball was cleared before it could go in.

Bayern's manager Vincent Kompany made changes to his lineup after a strong start to the season. Notably, Harry Kane and Michael Olise began the game on the bench. Bayern had most of the ball in the first half but found it hard to create clear chances.

Kane came on at half-time, and Olise along with Jamal Musiala joined the game with 35 minutes left. Their entrance increased the pressure on Schalke.

Musiala was making his first appearance of the season after experiencing seizures in two pre-season matches. His presence on the field made Bayern look more dangerous in the closing minutes.

Konrad Laimer missed a close-range chance, hitting the side-netting. Kane also faced a setback late in the game when Karius made a fantastic fingertip save, denying his shot aimed at the top corner.

Despite Bayern pushing hard towards the end, Schalke's strong defense stood firm and earned them a vital point, marking their first of the season.

This draw also meant Bayern could not finish a Bundesliga matchday at the top of the table for the first time in 67 matchdays.

For Kane, it was another disappointing day as he chased his 100th Bundesliga goal. This match was his 96th appearance in the league, and he is still two goals away from the milestone.

Bayern will now focus on the Champions League, with Bodø/Glimt visiting on Thursday. They will then play against Bundesliga newcomers Elversberg on 13 September.
