The Confederation of African Football has asked its 54 member countries to send in bids to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2028, 2032, and 2036.
CAF made this announcement in a statement on its website on Friday.
They said the bidding process aims to be clear, trustworthy, and fair, following global standards.
"The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) has invited its Member Associations (“MAs”) that represents 54 African countries, to submit bids to host the CAF AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS (“AFCON”) 2028, 2032 and 2036," the statement said.
CAF mentioned that the Africa Cup of Nations is the biggest sporting event in Africa and ranks among the largest worldwide. It draws in over 3.2 billion TV viewers and six billion online views globally.
Details about the bidding process for these three tournaments were not shared. This includes deadlines for submission and the technical requirements needed. However, they did say that the process was developed with help from the independent expert PwC, along with technical, financial, and legal advisers.
The framework sets out the criteria for choosing the host country or countries for each tournament.
CAF also pointed out that the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 will take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
The football governing body added that there would be a senior men’s national team competition every year, except during FIFA World Cup years.
This invitation kicks off the competition among CAF’s member countries for the chance to host three upcoming editions of Africa’s top football tournament.
