Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso are planning to jointly host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations. These three countries are run by military governments.
The Malian Football Federation announced this in a statement. They said officials met with Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe on Saturday in New York. The meeting was about their joint bid to host the tournament.
These three neighbours are part of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). They all face challenges with security due to deadly attacks from jihadist groups, which have caused many deaths.
The Malian federation described the CAF meeting as a key moment in the bidding process. It allows the three countries to follow the steps in CAF regulations to win the right to host the 2032 AFCON.
The federations are committed to preparing a strong and credible bid. They want to bring a fresh vision for African football.
Burkina Faso hosted the AFCON in 1998, while Mali did so in 2002. Niger has never hosted this tournament before.
Mali has five stadiums approved by CAF. Burkina Faso's main stadium in Ouagadougou got approval in 2025. Niger is working to improve the General Seyni Kountche Stadium, which has been banned from hosting international matches since 2022.
The next AFCON will be held in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
