Content creator and streamer Carter Efe is looking at international opponents after keeping his celebrity boxing title with a technical knockout win over rapper Speed Darlington in Lagos.
Efe defeated Darlington during their four-round match at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, on Thursday. This win keeps Efe’s unbeaten record in Balmoral Promotions’ Chaos in the Ring celebrity boxing series.
The fight was part of the promotion’s "Chaos in the Ring" Independence Edition, which celebrated Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.
Efe had control of the fight before the referee stopped the match when Darlington stopped moving. This led to the victory being awarded to Efe by technical knockout.
This win followed Efe’s unanimous decision victory over singer Habeeb “Portable” Badmus in May. All three judges scored that three-round fight 30-27 in favor of Efe. Businessman Emeka “E-Money” Okonkwo had promised a ₦50 million reward after that win.
‘It wasn’t easy’
After the fight on Thursday, Efe gave credit to his partner, Taylor Jasmine, saying she motivated him to win. He also mentioned that the contest was tougher than it looked.
“I feel…because of my woman, Taylor Jasmine. She’s the one that gave me the strength to win because I didn’t even train for this fight,” Carter said.
He also said, “Man, it wasn’t easy. With that stomach that looked like pregnancy, you see I have strength.”
‘Tired of Speed Darlington, Portable’
Efe is ready to move on from local celebrity fights. He named American boxer and YouTuber DDG and former world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. as potential opponents.
“I want an international opponent. I am tired of Akpi Speed Darlington and Portable. I want to fight with DDG. They are boxers. I want to fight with Mayweather,” he said.
DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., is an American rapper and YouTuber who has also fought in celebrity boxing. He made his boxing debut in June 2021, winning against Nate Wyatt at the Social Gloves: Battle of the Platforms event in Miami.
Mayweather is one of the most famous former world champions. He ended his professional career with an unbeaten record of 50 wins, including 27 knockouts. He also won world titles in five weight classes and earned a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
After retiring, Mayweather has taken part in exhibition matches around the world against various internet personalities and combat athletes. Efe seems ready to step into the ring with the boxing legend.
The Nigerian content creator said he won’t fight again until after his wedding to Jasmine, who lives in Georgia, United States.
“When I get married to Taylor Jasmine, that’s when I’ll fight my next fight,” he said.
He also showed interest in a celebrity boxing match between entertainers Shank Comics and Kiekie, saying he would support efforts to make that fight happen.
“I want to see Strange versus Kata fight. I will put everything on the line to see that fight,” he said.
Rivalry settled in the ring
The rivalry between Efe and Darlington grew in the weeks leading to their October meeting. This followed a public challenge from Darlington after Efe’s victory over Portable.
The two exchanged threats during promotional events, with their press conference in September turning into a confrontation that required security to step in.
At the final press conference, Darlington kicked Efe’s birthday cake to the ground. Firecrackers set off by Efe’s team caused a brief fire, which was quickly put out with fire extinguishers.
Thursday’s victory ended their public feud in the ring, with Efe keeping his unbeaten record in the series.
