Charly Boy Explains Why He Connected Isbae U with Obasanjo for Interview

Veteran entertainer and activist Charly Boy has explained why he connected former President Olusegun Obasanjo with Nigerian comedian and content creator Isbae U for his interview show, Curiosity Made Me Ask.

Charly Boy shared this on X on Monday, looking back at Obasanjo’s appearance on the popular YouTube show. He said the interview showed the need to give young people chances and get older generations to connect with their ideas and platforms.

“Sometimes, the greatest thing you fit give a young person no be money. Na opportunity. Look at wetin happen when Baba entered Bae U’s world,” Charly Boy wrote.

He mentioned that Obasanjo, despite being older, went along with the different style of the show and matched Isbae U’s vibe. “A man of his age and experience sat down with a young man whose style dey completely different from wetin he is used to. Baba no just sit there looking serious. He matched the energy, played along and showed Nigerians another side of himself,” he said.

Making the Connection

Charly Boy then talked about how he helped connect the former president with the young content creator. “And who helped make that connection happen? Charly Boy. Fada believed in the young people behind that show enough to pull Baba into their space,” he said.

Obasanjo’s appearance on Curiosity Made Me Ask caught attention because he joined in the show’s signature jokes and playful banter with Isbae U. The host jokingly introduced Obasanjo as his former employee, saying he paid his salary, provided his food, and covered his rent at Aso Rock between 1999 and 2007.

Obasanjo went along with the joke and answered Isbae U’s questions about current Nigerian pop culture, including whether he knew music producer Don Jazzy, dancer Poco Lee, and content creator Carter Efe. The former president said he did not know them, which led to more jokes from the host.

Lessons from the Interview

Reflecting on the bigger lesson from the interview, Charly Boy asked older people to create chances for younger Nigerians instead of just telling them to succeed. “To the older generation: don’t only tell young people to succeed. Give them room. Open doors. Recommend them. Trust them with opportunities,” he wrote.

He also urged young people to be ready to seize opportunities when they come. “To the younger generation: don’t wait for somebody to hand you a future. Build something worth believing in. When opportunity comes, be ready,” he said.

Charly Boy wrapped up by calling for better teamwork between generations. “When generations support each other, everybody gets to grow. Na so legacy suppose work,” he wrote.
