Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez had successful surgery on a broken jaw late Saturday night. This injury happened during Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Everton in the Premier League.
The accident took place in the second half at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Martínez rushed off his line to punch away a free-kick.
He collided hard with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and fell down.
Medical staff attended to Martínez for almost ten minutes on the pitch. They gave him oxygen and put a neck brace on him before taking him off on a stretcher, which received warm applause from both teams’ fans.
Young goalkeeper Mike Penders came in for him and helped keep a clean sheet as Chelsea grabbed three important points.
On Sunday, football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared a post on X. In it, Martínez said, “The most important things are 3 points and clean sheet. I’ll be back in few weeks!”
Right now, the focus is on his recovery. Martínez’s main concern, as always, was the match result and the clean sheet. True to his nature, the World Cup-winning goalkeeper is already looking forward to getting back on the pitch.
