Chelsea have struck a deal with Crystal Palace to bring in defender Maxence Lacroix. This is a big step for Chelsea as they aim to strengthen their defense.
The two Premier League teams have finished talks about the transfer of the French player. Personal terms should not be an issue.
According to BBC Sport on Friday, Lacroix will have a medical check-up before finalizing his move to Stamford Bridge.
The 26-year-old centre-back is expected to sign a long-term deal that will last until 2032.
Chelsea’s signing of Lacroix follows two strong seasons at Crystal Palace. He became known as one of the most dependable defenders in the Premier League.
Under coach Oliver Glasner, Lacroix helped Palace win the UEFA Conference League title and perform well in domestic competitions.
He joined Palace from Bundesliga team Wolfsburg in August 2024 and quickly made a name for himself in the squad.
His impressive performances have led to him being called up to France’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Chelsea are keen on his physical attributes. Lacroix is 6ft 4in tall and has great aerial skills, strength in tackles, and fast recovery speed.
In the 2025-26 Premier League season, he stood out by being the only player to achieve at least 50 tackles, 200 duels won, and 250 clearances. This shows his strong defensive play.
Chelsea also appreciate his ability to adapt tactically. Lacroix can play in both a back four and a back three. His experience in various defensive setups will give manager Xabi Alonso more choices as the club works on building its squad.
The deal was worked out at the ownership level between the two London clubs. Chelsea is now close to bringing in one of the league’s top central defenders.
