Church Guard Arrested for Death of 11-Year-Old Girl in Suleja

The police have arrested a 26-year-old church guard, Godwin Dauda, in connection with the death of an 11-year-old girl, Christabel Albert. Her body was found in a well on the church grounds in Suleja.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said this incident started with a missing-person report filed at “A” Division, Suleja, on September 20. Christabel had left home the day before to attend a relative’s birthday but did not come back.

A pastor from the Apostolic Church in Suleja later informed the police after the body was discovered in the well on church property.

Police officers, along with local government welfare officials, retrieved the body and took it to the General Hospital, Suleja. There, it was identified as the missing girl.

The PPRO stated that detectives then focused on Mr Dauda, the church’s security guard, who reportedly fled the scene after the incident.

He said the suspect was apprehended around 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the Kuje area of the Federal Capital Territory, where he was hiding.

Mr Abiodun said the suspect confessed during questioning that he had lured the girl into his security room on September 19. He allegedly sexually assaulted her, which led to her death.

The suspect reportedly dumped Christabel’s body into the well to hide the crime before leaving the area.

The police have said that the investigation is ongoing. The suspect is expected to be moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
