The Borno State High Court in Maiduguri has ordered the temporary seizure of a four-bedroom bungalow tied to an alleged investment scam involving N345 million.
On Friday, Dele Oyewale, spokesperson for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), shared this information. Judge Babagana Karumi granted the order after the EFCC filed an ex parte application.
The property is located in Dikecheri Mashamari Ward within Jere Local Government Area of Borno State. It sits on a 50ft by 100ft plot of land. Investigators believe the property was bought with money gained from illegal activities.
The EFCC's case revolves around one Udda Ahmad, known as Imam Dawud. He allegedly approached a businessman named Ahmadu Idris in 2022 and 2023. Ahmad offered to supply wheat offal at a lower price and promised profit-sharing.
Investigators reported that Mr. Idris transferred N345 million for the deal. But they claim the money was diverted for personal expenses instead.
EFCC lawyer Mukhtar Ahmed informed the court that the application was backed by an eight-paragraph affidavit from investigator Maina Muhammad. This affidavit detailed how the property is linked to the money from the deal.
Ahmed also explained that the EFCC acted on a petition from K.M. Haruna, who signed on behalf of Idris. The petition alleged that the funds meant for the offal deal were misused.
After hearing the application, Judge Karumi approved the request. He ordered the temporary seizure of the property until the investigation is complete and potential prosecution begins.
