Davido Opens Up About His Early Struggles with Money

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has shared his experience of being broke early in his music career. This was surprising because he comes from a wealthy family.

He talked about this during a recent episode of the Uncut Podcast, which became popular on Tuesday.

Davido said his first song, Back When, came from his own struggles. In the song, he raps about being broke and feeling rejected.

The singer explained that he faced financial difficulties after going against his father, billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke. His father wanted him to focus on education instead of music.

Davido eventually moved out of his family home to chase his music dreams. This choice took away the financial support he had enjoyed growing up.

“My song Back When was inspired by a true experience. There was a time I was broke. I had rich friends with rich parents who lived in mansions in Ikoyi with police escorts. But I had no money,” he said.

His story gives us a look into the tough times he faced before becoming famous, even with his family's wealth.

Today, Davido is one of Africa’s top Afrobeats artists. He has been in the music industry for over ten years and has won many international awards and worked with big names.
