Davido throws New York party for his new album ORIADÉ

Afrobeats star David Adeleke, known as Davido, held a special listening party in New York City on Thursday night. This event came just before the release of his sixth studio album, ORIADÉ.

The party, sponsored by Martell, took place at the Amber Room. This was just hours before the 13-track album became available on streaming services through Sony Music UK/RCA Records.

The album is a big moment in Davido’s career. It arrives as he marks 15 years in the music industry.

This follows the release of 5ive in 2025, adding to his collection that includes Omo Baba Olowo: The Genesis (2012), A Good Time (2019), A Better Time (2020), and Timeless (2023).

The name ORIADÉ comes from the Yoruba words “Ori” (head or destiny) and “Adé” (crown). It translates to “the head that wears the crown.” Davido says the title represents purpose and fulfilment. He calls this his “crown era.” He also wants to reconnect with the African roots of his music.

Roll call

Many people attended the celebration, including Davido’s wife, Chioma, his manager Asa Asika, and his long-time collaborator DJ ECool. Close friends and associates were also there.

Before the album dropped at midnight, guests got to hear the project first. DJ ECool played the album from start to finish. Davido later joined him on stage to perform some songs from the album.

A special moment of the night was when Ghanaian rapper and singer Black Sherif surprised everyone by performing “Amazing Grace.” This song is his collaboration with Davido on the album.

Guests enjoyed Afrobeats-inspired cocktails during the event, which was organized by Martell.

A return to African roots

In interviews leading up to the album’s release, Davido said ORIADÉ shows a clear return to the sounds and identity that made Afrobeats popular. He wants this project to celebrate African culture, not just try to please Western audiences.

The album has 13 tracks that touch on themes of destiny, legacy, community, and Davido’s personal and artistic growth over the last 15 years. It also features collaborations with artists from Africa and beyond, like Black Sherif, Leon Thomas, Aya Nakamura, and Llona.
