Dolly Parton's Nephew Faces Legal Issues After Her Death

Dolly Parton passed away, and now there is a growing legal fight involving her nephew, Bryan Seaver. He was removed from his job as head of security shortly before her estate got a restraining order against him.

Parton died at the age of 80 on August 25. Seaver, who is the son of her sister Cassie Parton, was the family member who announced her passing to the public.

He had been working as Parton’s head of security for over 20 years. His father, Larry Seaver, previously held the same position.

But just weeks after Parton died, Seaver and his security companies were let go from their roles at her properties. This information came from a termination notice shared by TMZ and reported by PEOPLE.

The dismissal led to a legal action where She’s Alive, LLC, a group tied to Parton’s estate and managed by her longtime manager, Danny Nozell, filed for a temporary restraining order against Seaver in Davidson County Chancery Court located in Nashville.

Seaver’s security company was removed from Parton’s properties in September. New security took over at places like her Nashville home, museum, downtown house, and warehouse.

The termination notice explained that Parton’s properties and business interests were held by the DP Dean Trust. It also stated that Seaver’s personal interest in the trust was still valid.

After being fired, Seaver and his security team expressed their surprise to TMZ. They said they were “dismayed by the unexpected and, so far, unexplained actions” after Parton’s death.

The conflict grew when Nozell, through She’s Alive, filed for the restraining order against Seaver. According to court documents from TMZ and PEOPLE, the estate claims that Seaver started a campaign of threats, intimidation, and coercion, including demands for money.

The estate claims that Seaver mentioned his military experience, access to weapons, and ability for violence while talking to people linked to Parton’s business interests.

One message mentioned in court documents stated: “I am about to become the hand of retribution for my entire family.” Another one allegedly warned: “All I do is warfare … everyone needs to be worried about what I might do.”

The estate also claims that Seaver threatened to harm Parton’s business relationships and brand. According to PEOPLE’s report on the court filing, Seaver allegedly told one of Parton’s long-term lawyers: “I’m not an entertainment person. I’m a killer.”

These allegations have not yet been proven in court. Seaver has denied the reasons for his dismissal.

In their statement to TMZ, Seaver and his security team described their removal differently. They said they were “dismayed by the unexpected and, so far, unexplained actions” after Parton’s death. They accused Nozell and Pinnacle Bank of acting in bad faith, trying to profit from Parton’s legacy, while insisting they still wanted to protect her family and fulfill her wishes.

Seaver had previously appeared in a video on Parton’s Instagram to announce her death. He identified himself as her nephew and mentioned he had been her head of security for more than 20 years.

The legal action took place in Davidson County Chancery Court in Nashville. The estate is trying to stop Seaver from interfering with Parton’s business interests, employees, and partners. Reports on September 22 said a temporary restraining order was granted.

This case extends beyond just a disagreement about Seaver’s job. It also involves managing and protecting Parton’s business interests after her death.

Parton left behind a large fortune made from music, songwriting, business interests, and her connection with Dollywood. Forbes estimated her fortune at around $450 million, but other estimates have suggested it could be higher. PEOPLE cited Forbes when discussing what might happen to her estate.

Parton had no children. Her husband, Carl Dean, passed away in March 2025. This has led to public interest in who will benefit from her wealth and business interests.

But the current legal fight with Seaver is not just about inheriting Parton’s money. The court case is about his removal from security and claims of threats and intimidation against the estate.
