The Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora is urging political leaders in Ebonyi State to pay attention to important issues, leadership skills, and development plans ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The group made this call in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday. This came in response to recent political events in the state, including a rally that endorsed Governor Francis Nwifuru’s bid for a second term and a separate press conference in Abakaliki.

The group’s President, Paschal Oluchukwu, noted that these events show increasing political activity as the 2027 elections approach. He highlighted the need for meaningful conversations about the future of the state.

According to Oluchukwu, political leaders should keep talking to stakeholders across Ebonyi as discussions about the state's leadership ramp up.

The group also backed the stance taken by the Umuekumenyi Leaders Council, which supports the PDP’s governorship goal for the 2027 election.

“We align ourselves with the position of the Umuekumenyi Leaders Council and commend its members for their decision regarding the 2027 governorship election,” Oluchukwu stated.

He emphasized that the upcoming election should focus on governance, skills, and policies that will help the state grow.

“2027 should be about who has the ability and vision to push Ebonyi State forward and improve the lives of its people,” he added.

Oluchukwu urged voters to carefully consider candidates and their plans before making their choices.

The diaspora group also encouraged members of the Ezza community and other stakeholders to stay actively involved in politics through democratic means.

“Ezza people should continue to take part in the political process and aim for leadership roles like any other group in the state,” he said.

The group further called for peaceful political interactions and respect for democratic values as the 2027 general elections draw nearer.

They urged politicians, political parties, and their supporters to steer clear of divisive language and focus on campaigns that bring forth ideas and solutions to the state’s problems.

“We encourage all stakeholders to uphold democratic values, promote issue-based campaigns, and ensure the political environment remains peaceful as the state prepares for the 2027 elections,” the statement concluded.

The association believes that focusing on issues instead of personalities will help strengthen democracy and support the overall growth of Ebonyi State.
