APC Leader Urges Tinubu to Focus on Security Ahead of 2027 Elections

An APC leader in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged President Bola Tinubu to ignore distractions from the opposition as the 2027 general elections approach.

Oyintiloye said the President should concentrate on governance and directly address security threats highlighted by security agencies.

He made this call while speaking with reporters on Sunday in Osogbo. This comes after a recent alert from the Department of State Services (DSS) about possible attacks on vulnerable areas, especially in southern Nigeria.

Last week, reports showed that the DSS had warned Muslim and Christian leaders in Osun State about a plan by terrorists to target places of worship and public gathering spots.

Oyintiloye said, "The President must urgently support security agencies to boost surveillance, improve collaboration between agencies, and take proactive steps to protect lives and property amid rising security issues."

He added, "Security agencies should be empowered through increased vigilance, better intelligence gathering, and coordinated preventive actions across the country."

As a former lawmaker, Oyintiloye also called for all relevant security agencies to work together, share intelligence, and enhance their surveillance and response systems.

He specifically called for stronger security around schools, places of worship, NYSC facilities, parks, garages, and other areas at risk, especially now that schools are open again.

The APC leader demanded a prompt, thorough, and transparent investigation into recent killings in Osun State.

He urged security agencies to identify anyone suspected of being involved in, sponsoring, or aiding the violence. He insisted that those with enough evidence against them should be prosecuted according to the law.

Oyintiloye appealed to all involved, including transport workers, community leaders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders, to stay calm and help security agencies by providing valuable information to aid investigations and avoid further violence.

He said, "If needed, service chiefs should reassess and adjust their operational strategies without delay, as time is critical."

He also called on state governors to support the President's efforts by giving adequate resources and backing to security agencies in their areas.

While recognizing the President's role as the Chief Security Officer of Nigeria, Oyintiloye stressed that governors and local government chairmen are closer to the people. They must take proactive steps to strengthen local intelligence and keep the peace.

He said, "A nation with a strong and effective security system is better positioned for rapid growth, economic success, and lasting social services."

He urged citizens to stay alert, work with security agencies by providing timely and useful information, and keep praying for peace, unity, and progress in the country.
