Nigerian champions Edo Queens will leave for Cairo, Egypt, today. They are ready to bounce back from CAF’s decision. They will play Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies on Thursday in the rescheduled WAFU-B qualifying final. A spot at the CAF Women’s Champions League is at stake.
The match will continue from where it stopped on October 29. The score was 2-2 after regular time in the first game held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on September 5. The game will start with extra time.
Edo Queens had won 4-1 on penalties and thought they had claimed the regional title. But the Confederation of African Football canceled the result. They said the extra-time periods required were not played.
The Nigeria Football Federation appealed the decision for Edo Queens. They argued that the club should not face punishment for a mistake by the match officials. But on October 16, CAF’s Appeal Board upheld the ruling. Now both teams must settle the match on the field.
The replay will include two 15-minute extra time periods. If the score is still level after that, a new penalty shootout will take place. For Edo Queens, the focus is to move past the controversy. They need to show their determination to earn the qualification.
Ampem Darkoa will also look to take advantage of this second chance to reach the continental competition. CAF has ordered that new match officials be appointed for the continuation of the game.
The winning team will represent the WAFU-B zone at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt. This tournament is set for November 1 to 15.
Edo Queens have accepted the ruling and say their goal remains the same. They are disappointed about losing the earlier penalty shootout win but are ready to fight for their place.
With a spot in the continental league on the line, both teams must now finish the disputed final through the next 30 minutes. If needed, they will go to penalties.
